Wiss

The Wiss brand, founded by Jacob Wiss in 1847, is a renowned manufacturer of high-quality scissors, shears, and other cutting tools. Originally established in Newark, New Jersey, by a Swiss immigrant who was a skilled cutler and gunsmith, the company initially produced surgical instruments and shears. During the American Civil War, Wiss's products, including scissors and shears, were in high demand by the Union Army. By 1914, Wiss had become the world's largest producer of shears and scissors, with a production of over two million pairs annually. The company continued to thrive, particularly during World War II, when its products were converted for military use. After several changes in ownership, including being acquired by Cooper Industries in 1967 and later by the Apex Tool Group in 2010, Wiss remains a trusted brand in the hand tool industry, known for its performance, durability, and commitment to quality.
